VASCAR Immersive Room

WALTER E. WASHINGTON CONVENTION CENTER
801 ALLEN Y. LEW PLACE NW, WASHINGTON, DC 20001

Located in Washington, at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, the VASCAR Immersive Room is designed as a fully immersive environment where visitors can experience stories through image, sound, and space.

Set within an adapted interior space, the installation surrounds visitors with LED screens on all sides, creating a contained environment where narratives unfold in a direct and engaging way. Instead of observing from a distance, visitors are placed inside the experience.

The content focuses on Guinea-Bissau—its history, cultural practices, and contemporary realities—presented in a format that is accessible to diverse audiences. Visual sequences, sound, and movement replace traditional exhibition formats, allowing complex subjects to be understood more intuitively.

Building this space required careful integration of technology within an existing structure. A custom-built lightweight system was developed to support the screens while respecting spatial and structural limitations. Entry and exit systems were designed to manage visitor flow while ensuring safety at all times.

The installation also incorporates built-in safety mechanisms, allowing for controlled access and immediate exit if needed, ensuring reliability in both normal operation and unexpected situations.

This project is developed in coordination with Creative Time and ZERO TO THREE, situating the initiative within a network of organizations working across culture, public engagement, and education.

The installation will be open from June 18 to July 6, 2026.
