Taking place in Los Angeles, Frieze Art Fair Los Angeles continues to stand as one of the most visible meeting points for contemporary art, bringing together galleries, artists, collectors, and institutions from across the world.

Within this context, the Vasco Cabral Cultural Institute (VASCAR) participates with a focused program that introduces artistic practices connected to Guinea-Bissau and its diaspora into this international setting, creating space for these works to engage with a wider network of galleries and audiences.

Installed within the fair’s temporary architecture at Santa Monica Airport, from February 26 to March 1, 2026, the presentation moves between booth-based exhibitions and curated moments that highlight emerging and established artists. The approach avoids over-framing, allowing the work itself to define how it is seen and understood.

Beyond the exhibition format, the participation extends into conversations, informal exchanges, and meetings with professionals in the field, creating practical opportunities for collaboration, representation, and future circulation.

Rather than treating the fair as a one-time showcase, VASCAR uses this moment as part of a longer strategy: testing how artists linked to Guinea-Bissau can enter, navigate, and sustain a presence within international art contexts.

The result is not only visibility, but positioning—placing artists within a space where relationships, recognition, and opportunities are actively shaped.
